Equine Canadian Identification Project
The Equine Canadian Identification Project (EQUINE CAN ID) is CLRC's record for non-purebred horses of all types. Any horse, pony, donkey or mule that is not eligible for registration with a Canadian breed association can be recorded under this project, and you will receive an attractive certificate. In the future, all equine animals in Canada will have to be identified under a national equine identification program. EQUINE CAN ID has been designed to comply with the requirements of that program.
All that is need to record an animal in EQUINE CAN ID is a name, sex, approximate
birth date, and some identification, whether it be a tattoo, ear
tag, microchip, or photo, and the owner’s name and address. While
this is the minimum information required, pedigree information
(up to 3 generations of ancestry) can be included if known and
submitted with your application.
To make things as easy as possible, applications are accepted by mail, fax,
or over the Internet. The application form can either be filled
out directly on the Internet and submitted, or printed out to
be completed and then mailed or faxed.
Two certificate designs are available. Both feature the CLRC
logo and red CLRC seal. The more basic certificate is for animals
identified by microchip, tattoo, or tag, while the deluxe certificate
includes a colour photograph of the animal. Both styles are printed
on our deluxe colour printers on good quality paper and have space
for up to 3 generations of ancestry.
The following is a sample of the deluxe certificate. The basic
certificate is similar except no space is allowed for a photograph
of the animal.
