LIVESTOCK RECORDS MOVES FORWARD
Donald Swanston of High River, Alberta, a representative of the Canadian Percheron Association, was re-elected as Chairman of Canadian Livestock Records Corporation (CLRC) following the Annual Meeting in Ottawa on April 10, 1999. Bryon Wilson, St. Eugene, Ontario, was re-elected as Vice-Chairman. Mr. Wilson represents the Canadian Llama and Alpaca Association. Re-elected to the Board of Directors was Betty Small, Harriston, Ontario, representing the Canadian Swine Breeders’ Association. Jean-Claude Brunet of Thurso, Quebec, who represents La Société des Éleveurs de Bovins Canadiens (Canadian Cattle Breeders’ Association), was elected to the Board for the first time. Continuing on the Board are Peggy Newman, Blackie, Alberta from the Canadian Sheep Breeders’ Association and Jack Reeves of Uxbridge, Ontario, representing the Canadian Morgan Horse Association, Inc.
During the past year, there was an expansion of the amount of pedigree information posted on the Internet, and performance and genetic evaluation data was integrated with pedigree to issue a value-added performance certificate for purebred swine. CLRC is pursuing this manner of data exchange for other species. 1998 also saw a dramatic uptake in the use of electronic registration, especially in swine.
Canadian Livestock Records Corporation is a non-profit, multi-species registry office that currently services 46 Canadian member breed associations representing 10 species of animals with technologically-advanced programs to meet the need for increased information in the selection of breeding animals.
It was announced that the 2000 CLRC Information Workshop and Annual Meeting will be held in Calgary, Alberta on March 31 and April 1, 2000.
